Beer Scores One for Health

The longest chapter in Fermenting Revolution is about beer and health. My number one health tip for drinkers is: moderation. My number one health tip for immoderate drinkers is: water.

Now researchers are saying that beer is better than water for re-hydration.

Prof Manuel Garzon, of Granada University in Spain, tested water and beer on subjects who had engaged in strenuous activity under conditions of extreme heat. The results, he says, show that a moderate amount of beer (one pint) was better than actual water at helping the exercisers retain water.

Apparently, the reasons have to do with beer’s carbonation and nutritional content. Carbonation helps deliver the goods more quickly to the system, and the carbohydrates (see, it’s right there in the name!) help replace lost calories. Read the whole story in the Telegraph right here.

But be warned, as my advice above indicates, alcohol in large doses has the opposite effect – it’s a diuretic, which means it dehydrates the system, and that’s why immoderate drinkers should pound glasses of water as they pound glasses of intoxicants.

Good Information !!!! ^^ Beer could be helpful to keep our health !! Wow but… I am just afraid The beer which is contaminated by the Genetically Engineered Food like GE Rice or.. may effect bad influence to our body. I heard that the one of the most popular beer Bud Weiser used the unnatural processed rice in the process of making beer ! That’s shame isn’t it ? i think if we check it( i mean weather the GE rice is used or not) b4 we drink beer , it’s better than ever !

Sue – I agree. Click on the Organic/GMO category over in the right hand column of this page to read some of the articles I’ve posted about GMOs and beer. I also covered this issue to some degree in my book, Fermenting Revolution. Click the book cover in the right column over there to read more about it.
